Jannah Scott - BSc, MPH

Jannah Scott is a Strategist, Planner, Advisor, and Public Policy Expert. She has served in many capacities with government, and with faith and nonprofit communities for over 30 years.

In March 2009, Jannah joined the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as Deputy Director, Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. In that role, Jannah has partnered with elected officials, business, philanthropy and public safety leaders in jurisdictions across the county to promote the engagement of faith-based and community groups on issues of emergency preparedness and response; long-term recovery; and other issues within Homeland Security.

Jannah’s most recent endeavors include:

• Building resilience to promote affiliation of populations with local first responders;
• Developing promising practices and national policy/doctrine in emergency preparedness;
• Promoting multi-faith dialogue and cooperation on a host of homeland security issues
• Resolving conflict/problems and building consensus on homeland security issues; and
• Creating protocols on the conduct of strategic engagement and partnerships with the public.

As a Presidential Appointee, Jannah helped connect community and faith groups with the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships and with other similar federal centers across the country.

From 2005 to 2009 she served as the Policy Advisor to former Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano. In that role, Jannah represented the Governor with state government agencies, businesses, coalitions, philanthropy, faith leaders, cities and counties to establish local initiatives aimed at serving the citizens of the state. Jannah has extensive experience in research, collaboration, program and policy development and implementation; capacity building; training and stakeholder engagement. She was a key player in the Arizona response to the 2005 Hurricanes. This one-stop model received national recognition for effective, efficient response to the needs of disaster survivors.

Jannah received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of California, Berkeley in planning, policy and conservation of natural resources. She is a published author with writings on building resilience and utilizing public safety training as a way to reduce risk in high-risk communities. Jannah is also an ordained minister with a heart for sharing how the principles of the Bible can enrich everyday life.
