Lena adds to Washington DC Associates strong implementation,
capacity building and partnership building skills with
expertise in integrating corporate, academic, government
and non-governmental organization resources to meet economic,
philanthropic, educational, and Diaspora engagement goals. |

She is a recognized senior implementation
specialist with extensive experience and success in mobilizing
resources for national and international economic development,
and serving as a catalyst for transformational changes in higher
education program reforms, integrated fund development, organizational
growth, stakeholder and leadership development. Her unique skills
set was developed from a 25-year national and international career.
Lena earned her BA from the University of Rochester, Rochester,
NY and her Masters in Project Management from Boston University.
She directed the U.S. Department of State Central African Logistics
Office, (CALO), supporting five embassies, four consulates and
nine government agencies during the United States government’s
reconfiguration of its presence in Africa. Lena also led infrastructure
assessment and logistics teams, managing post closures and opening
new cost-effective facilities. She worked closely with Chambers
of Commerce to organize trade missions in Francophone Africa as
Special Projects Coordinator, then Interim Director of CALO.
Lena cultivated strong partnerships across sectors, cultures,
interest groups and organizational levels to lead fundraising,
and major donors’ and stakeholders’ development activities in three
comprehensive capital campaigns between $250 million and $750 million.
She raised over $150 million in gifts from personal and team efforts.
As the Associate Vice President for Institutional Advancement in
two public university systems and the Interim Campaign Director
for a private university between 2002 and 2011, Lena co-chaired
a university strategic planning council and served as a member
of two university foundation boards. Lena was the lead architect
of the Kauffman Foundation grant proposal that resulted in a $3.5
million award to establish a university-wide entrepreneurship program
at Howard University. In 1998-1999, she served on Georgetown University’s
McDonough School of Business campaign team and drafted the mobilization
plan for the campaign kick-off.
In 2007, Lena established LPN Consulting, LLC to support implementation
goals and develop capacity for universities, businesses and non-profits.
Lena’s current activities include developing strategies for building
partnerships, donor pipelines, implementation plans, business maturity
models, board capacity and positioning non-profits. She is also
a board member of
SIG GlobDev, the Zambia Orphans of Aids, and the Panhandle Educational
Consulting Services. |
